And if anyone knows how to get blogger to recognize my old blog again via web publishing, let me know. Changed the filename for the transfer to MT, and now it won't let me change back, as it's 'taken.' No shit. And thus, you won't see this notice there. September 18th, 2003September 4th, 2003August 29th, 2003: Holiday As of 11am this morning, I am incommunicado until Monday night. I need to buy a camera. There must be pictures. Current Mood: August 22nd, 2003: Blackout Coolness... Check these blackout pictures out (via Jvstin) - the email going about seems a bit... wrong, in comparison. http://www.lindqvist.com/xpo/index.p : Friday Five 1. When was the last time you laughed? About an hour ago, at the cartoon 2. Who was the last person you had an argument with? Husband, from 11:30 pm til 1 am last night. But things got... not quite fixed... but talked over some more, anyway. I'm hanging on to old pain I should have let go of by now. Why do we do that? 3. Who was the last person you emailed? My client boss, with his weekly update. 4. When was the last time you bathed? Last night. Well, that was showered... I bathed a week and some ago when I read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 5. What was the last thing you ate? 4 cheapo oreos with morning coffee. (Now proceeding to baby carrots.) Current Mood: August 21st, 2003: Suckage Neither Jeff nor I get paid for blackout day. Neither Jeff nor I get the option of making up the time. Neither Jeff nor I have vacation time to spare. We are not the only ones to suffer this fate. : Knock on wood I was at work 11 hours yesterday trying to get my computer problems fixed. We finally determined the router was fried. New router this morning, no new viruses. Just very very tired. School tonight. Ugh. Very very busy nuts weekend. And next week, and then a weekend away. Amen. I think if I could sleep about 14 hours, I might feel like a human being and not react to things... inappropriately. August 20th, 2003: Gritting Teeth. Ugh. The Juno just got a bounce from an address I did not send an email to. This is bad. Must remember not to let email download into my computer at home tonight and keep using the online version. Maybe that will keep it out of my addressbook (the email bounce address is an address I don't even recognize - a wis.edu account.). Current Mood: : The computer with no immune system. ( Worms, Viruses, and my company's crappy IT department. ) Current Mood: itchy. Ew. Viruses... August 15th, 2003: And I wanted to add... Generators. I've decided we'll never get one. #1 - you need fuel of some nature, mostly gas it seems, to run them. When the power is out the pumps go down - no gas. I'm not big on storing anything, either. #2 - water. Water is what I need. Anything else I can make a fire for. A generator isn't going to help me have clean water. #3 - they keep me awake. Those darn things are loud - especially when all the other power is off. #4 - not having one forced me to walk about 5 miles yesterday out of sheer boredom. This is a good thing (except for the blisters on the back of my foot.) It also served to remind me I am online more than any healthy person should be. Must start setting aside walking time again. August 14th, 2003: No Power, Borrowed Time, and Paying it ahead Okay, I'm on battery. I've got minutes. Don't know how many. No power. Much much more on this, and my adventures ("because with Liz it's always an adventure") later. I helped three cars today. Two really needed it. The 72 year old had been there twenty minutes and no one had stopped. Come on people! Walked about the neighborhood - remember to post about the demographics of generators later. Hot. Very sweaty. Very Humid. No power. Conserve water - sponge bath only for me tonight. Praying the power comes back on before morning. so much to do at work. So much I wanted to do online tonight. Remember to talk about the fires at the plants surrounding the city. Looking forward to the tales from others who are affected. Just very annoyed it cut into my online time - but I got a big long walk in, so that was good. Think of me, o' online people, as you type... August 5th, 2003July 23rd, 2003: Good News! I have a cousin, Angela. She was the one who was thrown out there for me to look up to, and I did, although I didn't get to know her well. She was in TN, and I was in MI. But she was smart, and fun, and funny, and good with people. A very cute. Immediately post-college, her kidneys failed. She'd just gotten a degree in one of the bio-sciences. That carrer option ended right there. My aunt Vera (the eldest in the League of Aunts) gave her a kidney. Her fiance disappeared. She recovered. She got a job in advertising, and did really well there, despite the drug regimine to prevent the rejection of the kidney. Eventually, though, she did reject it. Last night, she got a new one. Her life has been in danger for some time now. I've been quietly worried. I don't know how she held out this long, except she's a Mills woman. We're stubborn, and we can take a lot of punishment. So far, so good. She's already talked to all the Aunts on the phone. I'll write her a letter. Think good thoughts for my cousin, okay guys. She deserves to live. Current Mood: July 20th, 2003: The mind of my 8 year old. This is why I don't worry when Jeff leaves Eminem on the radio when she's in the car. "What the heck is this song talking about, Fi?" I ask. "His mom is upset, she's crying because he won't clean out his closet. I don't know why she's so upset. But now he's going to clean it. He feels bad." lyrics here Current Mood: Current Music: U2/Live/Coldplay on Random... July 19th, 2003: Setbacks. Gah, I was just about to get out the door to go to A2 to help J and P move - and my mom calls. Her car has broken down and she needs a ride somewhere. So now we must go do that first. We'll be lucky to get into A2 by noon today. Sigh. Current Mood: Current Music: 'ouch, ow, er, ouch' as Fi brushes her hair. July 17th, 2003: God created men to kiss my ass. How about that? I swear, please tell me this is a joke before I become ill. 2nd Place: "Women Were Designed For Homemaking" Jonathan Goode (grade 7) applied findings from many fields of science to support his conclusion that God designed women for homemaking: physics shows that women have a lower center of gravity than men, making them more suited to carrying groceries and laundry baskets; biology shows that women were designed to carry un-born babies in their wombs and to feed born babies milk, making them the natural choice for child rearing; social sciences show that the wages for women workers are lower than for normal workers, meaning that they are unable to work as well and thus earn equal pay; and exegetics shows that God created Eve as a companion for Adam, not as a co-worker. via Network Current Mood: Current Music: My co-workers babbling. July 16th, 2003: Champyen! ( An IM conversation I had tonight with my kid ) She's spending the night with my parents. And now, to homework. Current Mood: Current Music: keyboard - typing in 8 different directions. July 13th, 2003: Whew. We're back. We got back last night, actually. We were all worn out, and decided to pack up and get home early. Weather cleared just enough for Fi and I to set up and hike on Thursday. For various reasons we slept in the back of the SUV that night. Weather sucked on Friday. Was glad when Jeff arrived. Weather improved, and so did my mood. Weather was cool but nice on Saturday. We went to the lake, where we read and Fi swam, despite the cold weather. I got a touch of sunburn through my sunblock. Then we came home early and slept very very well last night after nice long showers. Sighted: either flying squirrels or brave regular ones, cranes, swans, many birds unidentified, crows, chipmonks, bunnies, blue dragonflies with black wings, and every freaking other kind of bug you can think of. Current Mood: Current Music: the lawn people cutting the neighbor's grass. |
